High School English Learner Teacher Amanda Stoermer, Stone Bridge, spent a week at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina, where she participated in the Marine Corps Educators Workshop. New rules will affect rising ninth graders who request special permission to attend a school outside their assigned zone. These students will be ineligible to participate in VHSL athletics for 365 days unless they attended that school’s feeder middle school the previous year. Steuart Weller Elementary School’s Amy Frenck turned a dream into reality by publishing her first book. Her students’ enthusiasm has sparked even more stories. Her newest book, Welcome to Kindergarten: A Special Book to Start Your Year, helps students get ready for kindergarten, sharing all of the great learning that will happen in their first year of elementary school. Goshen Post Elementary School’s Odyssey of the Mind team, The Sigmas, won fourth place at the OOTM World Finals held in Michigan in May. The team, composed of students in grades 1, 2, 4 and 5, competed in a technical challenge called “Mech-Animal Sidekick,” in which they designed, built and operated a robotic animal that performed tricks. Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, all LCPS athletic registrations must be completed through Arbiter Sports. Paper forms and other platforms will no longer be accepted.
