Blue certificate with a white dove emblem congratulating Kent Bailey, Jennifer Rodgers, and Matthew Talboo for the Award for Global Understanding.

Three LCPS educators were recently recognized at the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) conference for their leadership in helping students understand the world around them. Jennifer Rodgers of Dominion High School, Kent Bailey of Loudoun Valley High School and Matthew Talboo of Woodgrove High School received the NCSS Award for Global Understanding, a national honor sponsored by the Longview Foundation.

The award highlights their commitment to preparing students for thoughtful engagement in an interconnected world. Through lessons that encourage students to examine global issues, consider multiple viewpoints and understand cultural perspectives, these educators help students build the knowledge and skills they need to navigate an ever-changing global landscape.

Their work reflects upon, and aligns to, with the LCPS Instructional Framework, which emphasizes deeper learning, critical thinking, collaboration and real-world connections. Rodgers, Bailey and Talboo design learning experiences that invite students to explore meaningful questions, make informed decisions and understand how local actions can have global impact.

In addition to their classroom teaching, the three educators collaborate each year to lead the Loudoun International Summit, a student gathering focused on global topics and cross-cultural dialogue. Each also supports international exchange programs at their schools, giving students opportunities to broaden their world views and learn from peers with different life experiences.

LCPS congratulates these educators for their ongoing work to empower students to become informed, engaged contributors in their communities and beyond. Their efforts strengthen our shared mission to ensure every learner is prepared for the opportunities and challenges of a global society.
