The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Work Session

The Departments of Teaching and Learning and Digital Innovation provided an update on instructional technology initiatives, focusing on Intentional Technology in LCPS, Digital Learning Environments, data-driven decision-making, the Smart Start K-2 Tech Pilot and Generative AI.

Superintendent’s Report

Highlights of the report include:

1. 54 LCPS students named 2027 National Merit semifinalists.

2. Family and Community Engagement (FACE) released its Impact Report, highlighting a year of connection.

3. The 2026 LCPS Workforce Summit on Friday, October 16, will support connections between classrooms and careers.

Public Comment

Community members participated virtually and in person to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics. 

Action Items

The Board addressed four action items:

1. The School Board approved an FY26 supplemental increase to the Workers’ Compensation Fund of $1.8 million, to be funded by transfers from the School Operating Fund to maintain a two-month claims reserve.

2. The School Board approved the proposed budget development calendar for the FY28 Annual Budget.

3. The School Board postponed revisions to Policy 8155, Out-of-Zone School transfers, to the October 13 School Board meeting. 

4. The School Board adopted the Rashid calendar option for the 2028-2029 school year, as amended.

Information Items

The Board addressed several information items, including:

1. The School Board reviewed proposed changes to Policy 1010, School Division Legal Status.

2. The School Board discussed the proposed 2027 Legislative Priorities, which focus on advancing policies that strengthen public education across Virginia and address the most critical needs facing students, families and schools.

3. The School Board reviewed the Specialized Programs & Centers Committee's recommendation for the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Resource Hub.
