LCPS Students Show Continued Improvement on the 2026 SOL Tests

Reports released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) on August 25 show continued improvement by Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) students as measured by the 2026 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. The results indicate that SOL proficiency rates have increased or remained the same in most subject areas. These gains reflect the positive impact of school support systems, division initiatives, the work of our educators, and strong partnerships with our families.

“We are seeing the results of our collective focus on belonging, high-quality instruction and targeted supports for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. “These gains show what is possible when we stay committed to meeting the needs of every learner. I am grateful to our teachers, staff and leaders for their dedication, and to our families and community partners for working alongside us. While we are proud of this progress, we know there is more work ahead and room to improve, particularly in ensuring every student has access to the support and opportunities they need. Together, we will build on this momentum, address the areas where we have not yet achieved the outcomes we expect and continue working to ensure all of our students succeed.”

Comparative Performance - LCPS Compared to the Commonwealth

LCPS students demonstrated strong performance, consistently outpacing state-wide averages across all five subject areas:

English: Reading: LCPS achieved an 83% pass rate, compared to the Virginia state average of 74%, a difference of +9 percentage points.

English: Writing: LCPS achieved an 89% pass rate, compared to the state average of 76%, a difference of +13 percentage points.

History and Social Sciences: LCPS achieved an 88% pass rate, compared to the state average of 70%, a difference of +18 percentage points.

Mathematics: LCPS achieved an 82% pass rate, compared to the state average of 73%, a difference of +9 percentage points.

Science: LCPS achieved an 80% pass rate, compared to the state average of 71%, a difference of +9 percentage points.

Trends Over the Last Four School Years 

Since the 2022-2023 school year, pass rates have shown consistent growth across core subject areas. English Reading pass rates rose from 80% to 83%, while History and Social Sciences increased from 80% to 88%. Mathematics improved from 76% to 82%, and Science climbed from 74% to 80%. English Writing also demonstrated high achievement, maintaining a strong 89% pass rate in the 2025-2026 school year. 

Progress is also evident among division reporting groups. Among economically disadvantaged students, English Reading pass rates increased from 59% in 2022-2023 to 62% in 2025-2026, while Mathematics pass rates increased from 51% to 62% over the same period. Students with disabilities increased their Mathematics pass rate from 45% to 54%, an improvement of nine percentage points over four years. English Learners increased their Mathematics pass rate from 40% to 48%. 

“The overall pass rates across the division this year are encouraging, especially in some reporting groups,” stated Chief Academic Officer Dr. Ashley Ellis. “We celebrate our students’ gains and are proud of our educators’ efforts in supporting all of our students. We also continue to persist in our efforts to close achievement gaps and ensure every child has the resources and opportunity to reach their full potential.”
