The Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Title IX Office has launched an initiative to educate students about Title IX, a federal law that protects students’ rights in school.

As your principal has shared, this fall, middle and high school students will take part in a brief Title IX Student Bystander Training video and lesson. This lesson consists of a short, animated video that explains Title IX and focuses specifically on the role students can play as active bystanders. The video and lesson address important topics such as preventing harassment, discrimination and unsafe behavior, while helping students recognize when situations may require support or intervention. The training is designed to show what Title IX looks like in real-life situations, helping empower students to speak up, seek help from trusted adults and support their peers when something does not feel right.

We recognize that some content may be sensitive, and we are committed to presenting it in a thoughtful, age-appropriate and supportive manner. We are providing parents with a chance to review the material in advance and to opt their student out of the lesson.

Due to licensing restrictions, LCPS is unable to distribute the video link directly to the community. We want to ensure, however, that families have the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding their student's participation in the Title IX Student Bystander Training lesson during the 2026–2027 school year.

The LCPS Title IX Office is offering additional virtual and in-person viewing opportunities for parents/guardians. In-person sessions will take place in the School Board Meeting Room at the LCPS Administrative Offices (21000 Education Court, Ashburn, VA 20148).

Remaining sessions include:

  • Wednesday, August 12, 2026: 6:00-6:30 p.m. (virtual)

  • Wednesday, August 12, 2026: 6-6:30 p.m. (in-person)

Parents and guardians are welcome to attend any of the scheduled sessions. Following the video presentation, members of the Title IX Office will be available to answer questions, provide additional context regarding the purpose of the lesson and explain how the material will be presented to students.

Should you choose to opt your student out of viewing the Title IX Student Bystander video and lesson, please reach out to your principal.
