The Loudoun County School Board will hold a special meeting Monday, July 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Rock Ridge High School, 43460 Loudoun Reserve Drive, Ashburn, VA 20148, to discuss matters related to the proposed Golden to Mars transmission line project.

The School Board is convening this special meeting in response to a resolution adopted by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors requesting that the School Board hold an emergency meeting prior to July 20, 2026, to consider authorizing the use of School Board property for an alternative transmission line route following the Virginia State Corporation Commission’s June 29 approval of Route 3A. In light of that request and timeline, the School Board is meeting during its usual July recess to continue its review of this matter, hear from the public and deliberate as a Board before any decision is made.

The School Board has not made a final determination regarding the proposed transmission line routes that could affect School Board property. The Board believes it is important to come together publicly to hear from the community, discuss the issue and consider next steps before taking any action.

The meeting will be held at Rock Ridge High School because the School Board meeting room is unavailable during the summer recess due to scheduled maintenance. In addition, the Rock Ridge  school community could be affected by the proposed transmission line routes under consideration, making it an appropriate location for this discussion.

The meeting will be livestreamed on the Loudoun County Public Schools website so that members of the public may follow the discussion remotely. However, because the meeting is being held off-site, it will not be available through the School Board’s normal broadcast channels, and the division will not have the capability to offer virtual public comment for this meeting. Given technological limitations, public comment will be available in person only from those attending the meeting at Rock Ridge High School.

Members of the public who wish to speak during public comment may sign up in advance beginning Thursday, July 9, by visiting lcps.org or may sign up in person at Rock Ridge High School on the day of the meeting between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Community members who are unable to attend in person are encouraged to share their feedback with the School Board through Let’s Talk.
