CAMPUS seniors in blue caps and gowns pose together during a graduation celebration.

The LCPS CAMPUS program – College Achievement and Multicultural Program for Unique Students –  held its 2026 Senior Celebration, honoring 186 CAMPUS seniors, on Tuesday, June 2 at Independence High School. CAMPUS is an academic and college-preparatory program designed to remove barriers to higher education for students who will be the first in their families to attend college.

Over 90% of CAMPUS seniors are enrolling in 2- or 4-year colleges after graduation. The top enrolling schools (in order of enrollment) are Northern Virginia Community College, George Mason University, Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth University, James Madison University and the University of Virginia.

Dr. Ngozi Akingbesote, a 2016 Dominion High School graduate and CAMPUS alumna, was the keynote speaker. Her message highlighted the transformative power of education, resilience and community support, leaving graduates with a powerful reminder that their future is not defined by where they start, but by the courage they have to take the next step.

During the celebration, Loudoun Laurels Board Member the Honorable Joe T. May awarded the annual Loudoun Laurels scholarship to Abby Byambatseren of Stone Bridge High School. During a separate Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) graduation celebration, Anab Yassin of Tuscarora High School and a member of the AVID program, also received a Loudoun Laurels scholarship.

Loudoun Laurels Foundation is dedicated to developing future civic leaders through scholarships and mentorships and annually provides scholarships to CAMPUS and AVID students. Each scholarship award is $40,000 and is dispersed in $5,000 semi-annual increments over the course of the student’s undergraduate study. Since its establishment in 2013, the Loudoun Laurels Foundation has awarded 33 scholarships to LCPS students totaling more than $1.2 million.

The students during the Senior Celebration are part of the larger CAMPUS program. In total, 1,182 participate in the CAMPUS program. The goal of CAMPUS is to provide first-generation college-bound high school students with the resources, guidance, and support they need to successfully navigate the college admissions process and enroll in post-secondary education. CAMPUS lessons focus on academic and college- and career-preparation. Additionally, CAMPUS students use SchooLinks, the LCPS College & Career Readiness platform, to explore careers and research colleges and scholarships. Learn more about the CAMPUS program.
