More than 140 LCPS and Loudoun County students participated in the annual Student Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS) on April 29 at the Academies of Loudoun. Hosted by the Loudoun Environmental Education Alliance with support from the LCPS Office of Sustainability, Northwest Virginia Regional GREENetwork, Keep Loudoun Beautiful, and CMTA, an LCPS partner and regional solar mechanical engineering firm, this event highlights student engagement in addressing complex environmental challenges. Students from all grade levels presented projects exploring topics such as combating lanternflies, reducing microplastics, and improving recycling efforts, among others.
Nineteen judges from organizations such as the LCPS Sustainability Office, CMTA, Hood College, Loudoun County Parks and Recreation, Loudoun Water, the Loudoun County Environmental Commission, and Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy engaged with students, asked questions, and evaluated the projects. At each level, students had the opportunity to earn cash prizes made possible by event sponsors. Fourteen community partners also attended, further strengthening connections between students and local environmental organizations.
See the Loudoun Environmental Education Alliance webpage for the list of this year’s SEAS winners. First, second and third-place winners were selected in each school‑level category, along with the recipients of the Communicator Award and the Innovation in Action Award.
