The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

School Board and Administrative Advisory Committee Update
The Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee (CTEAC) provided the School Board with an update on the achievements, initiatives, and future considerations since their last report. The focus was on recent feedback regarding Perkins input from advisory members.
Work Session
The School Board engaged in the first budget work session for the FY28 operating budget.

The Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem were performed by the John Champe High School Singers.
Recognitions
LCPS is proud to recognize four employees with 40 and 45 years of service to the division.
The 2025-2026 school year is the second year of the LCPS middle school intramural sports program, serving all 18 middle schools. Each quarter, LCPS offers a different sport for students to participate in after school. Each school has a regular season and a tournament to determine the top team to advance to the LCPS Middle School Intramural Tournament. In the 2nd quarter, students competed in Volleyball, and in the third quarter, they competed in 3-on-3 basketball.
Numerous LCPS teams and individuals were recognized for capturing the VHSL State Championship in their sport or activity during the winter sports season.
Staff from Brambleton Middle School provided an overview of the implementation of performance-based supports as a way to assist students in maintaining and generalizing their social and emotional skills to the classroom and beyond.

Highlights of the report include:
Kevin West has been named the next Director of Elementary and Charter Schools.
Students explored STEAM careers and learning at Amazon Girls’ Tech Day.
The Teacher Cadet ceremony celebrated over 300 future educators.

Action Items
The Board addressed six action items:
The School Board voted to increase the FY27 School Operating Fund budget by $6.2 million to recognize available state funding in support of compensation actions already approved by the School Board.
The School Board voted to adopt the new Policy 4190, Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) Funding.
The School Board voted to approve the renewal of the LCPS contract with Fairfax County Public Schools to continue sending students to Thomas Jefferson High School, and that LCPS continue providing transportation for LCPS students as it previously has for the 2027-2028 school year.
The School Board voted to approve and adopt Policy 8115, Individuals Who May Be Admitted Free.
The School Board voted to accept and adopt new Policy 8425, Student-Athlete Extreme Heat Safety and Protection.
The School Board voted to approve the 2026-2027 "Local Plan for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Perkins Funds" and endorse the School Board Chair and LCPS Superintendent to sign the local plan.

The Board addressed one information item:
The School Board discussed the proposed meeting calendar for the FY 2028 – FY 2033 Capital Budget and an Eastern Loudoun Planning District elementary school attendance zone change process.

New Business
Ms. Shernoff made a motion to suspend the rules in order to discuss Calendar options. The motion passed and the Board discussed the Calendar options and feedback already received.
The Board then entered into a Closed Session.
