LCPS Update

We are writing to let you know of an opportunity on Wednesday to offer your feedback directly to the Virginia Department of Education and the Secretary of Education. On Wednesday, April 8, at 6:00 pm at Alexandria City High School’s Minnie Howard Campus, there will be a Region 4 in-person Listening Session. This event is part of a series of listening sessions across the Commonwealth to hear from Virginians about how VDOE can highlight successes and work together to strengthen public education by supporting educators and students.

VDOE is looking for division leaders, educators, parents, students, and community members to share their current education-related experiences. These sessions are an opportunity to share what is working well and to contribute to the conversation about how state leaders should be thinking about ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education and the supports they need to succeed.

There are also subsequent virtual sessions you can choose from. Learn more about the Commonwealth Listening Tour and register or submit your feedback.

Listening Session discussion topics will include:

  • Identifying what’s working well and where challenges remain;

  • Shaping ongoing supports in literacy and math instruction;

  • Understanding how well students are prepared for college or careers after high school;

  • Considering how the state evaluates and supports schools through accountability and accreditation processes; and

  • Discussing effective strategies to recruit and retain world-class teachers, school leaders and school support staff.

Location Address: In-Person, Wednesday, April 8, at 6:00 p.m., Alexandria City High School-Minnie Howard Campus, 3775 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302
