Sugarland Elementary School, Sterling Elementary School, Sully Elementary School and Guilford Elementary School have been officially designated as Virginia Community Schools by the Virginia Department of Education, marking a significant milestone in Loudoun County Public Schools’ continued focus on supporting the whole child.
The designation follows a rigorous statewide application and review process. Schools receiving the honor demonstrated strong alignment with the Virginia Community School model and a sustained commitment to high-quality implementation that supports student success both inside and outside the classroom.
The Virginia Community School model strengthens academic achievement by ensuring students have access to essential supports, including meeting basic needs, fostering meaningful family and community engagement, promoting emotional and mental wellness and increasing student engagement and motivation.
The designation process was developed with input from experienced community school practitioners and the Virginia Department of Education Community Schools Task Force to promote consistency, accountability and excellence across the commonwealth.
Nearly 60 sites across 13 school divisions earned the designation this year, reflecting a growing statewide investment in collaborative, student-centered practices that expand opportunities for students and families.
