The Loudoun County School Board (LCSB) adopted the FY27 Operating Budget in a 7-2 vote during a Special School Board Meeting on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices in Ashburn. The Board incorporated community feedback and asked thoughtful questions as they addressed the $1.96B Superintendent’s Estimate of Needs (SEON) presented on January 15.

This marks a significant step forward in supporting students, staff, and schools across LCPS.

The approved budget reflects the division’s continued focus on meeting the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students while strengthening workforce readiness and honoring commitments to employees.

School Board Chair April Chandler praised the collaborative work behind the budget and its alignment with division priorities.

“The Board’s approval of this budget reflects our shared values and our responsibility to support students, staff and families,” said Chair Chandler. “This budget invests in critical programs, expands opportunities for students, and honors our commitments to employees, all while positioning LCPS for continued success. I am thankful to my fellow board members, our staff, families and community members who contributed their voices and insights.”

Among the top highlights of the adopted budget are:

Continued Support for English Learners and Special Education students

The budget maintains a strong focus on services for English Learners and students with disabilities, ensuring schools have the staffing and resources necessary to meet growing needs and provide high-quality, individualized support.

Expanded Academic Access and Instructional Support

To strengthen learning across all grade levels, the adopted budget includes additional teachers and instructional coaches, expanded academic offerings such as the International Baccalaureate Career Pathways program and funding for students to receive targeted, high-impact instruction. The budget also continues support for Board-approved specialized programs, including the Elementary Dual-Language Immersion program, the Academy of Global and Linguistic Studies, and enhanced resources for the R.I.S.E. Academy.

New Athletic Opportunities for Students

Reflecting LCPS’s commitment to student engagement and wellness, the budget introduces new sports offerings, including girls flag football, boys volleyball and girls wrestling to expand access to athletics and provide more students with opportunities to participate in team sports.

Investment in Employees

The budget prioritizes LCPS employees by making meaningful investments in salaries and benefits, consistent with the division’s first collective bargaining agreement. These investments are designed to support recruitment and retention, recognize the professionalism of LCPS staff and maintain a competitive workforce.

“This budget represents our shared commitment to students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. “It prioritizes what matters most, strong instructional support, inclusive programs, access to opportunity, and competitive compensation, while remaining grounded in our responsibility to the community.”

The approved FY27 Operating Budget will now be presented to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors during a Joint Work Session that will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Loudoun County Government Center.
