On Nov. 19, students across LCPS participated in Job for a Day, a countywide career exploration event that connects students with professionals in workplaces throughout Loudoun. The initiative is sponsored by the Loudoun County School-Business Partnership Executive Council and organized through the Division of Career, Technical and Adult Education.
This year, approximately 600 students visited businesses across the county. More than 70 organizations participated, including Amazon, AAA, Great Country Farms, Purcellville Police Department, Inova, Apple Federal Credit Union, Town of Leesburg, HHMI Janelia Research Campus and QTS Data Centers, along with other community partners who opened their doors to support student learning.
Job for a Day gives students a meaningful first step toward planning their futures. By shadowing professionals, stepping into real work environments and observing daily operations, students gain exposure to a wide range of careers in industries that help drive the region’s economic growth. This firsthand experience helps students understand career pathways and identify the skills needed to succeed.
The event also reflects the commitment of local businesses to invest in education. By hosting students, business partners created opportunities for them to ask questions, explore interests and see how classroom learning connects to real work. Their participation highlights the strength of school and community partnerships across LCPS.
Throughout the day, students observed professionals collaborating, problem-solving and applying the tools of their trade. Whether in health care, engineering, information technology, hospitality or government, students were inspired by the chance to imagine what is possible for their own futures.
Job for a Day demonstrates the value of hands-on learning supported by strong community partnerships. It was a day filled with curiosity, discovery and real-world insight that students will carry forward as they plan their next steps.
