The Division of English Learners hosted Empowered! English Learner Family Conference on Saturday, Nov. 15. More than 230 families and students joined LCPS educators, staff members and community partners to celebrate and enhance support for English Learner (EL) students throughout the division.

Through interactive 30‑minute workshops, the conference provided families with practical resources and meaningful opportunities to connect with LCPS staff and community organizations. Families learned strategies to support student success, navigate school programs, explore technology tools, and build strong partnerships between home and school. Workshops on strengthening reading and math skills, preparing for life after high school, exploring artificial intelligence, and earning high school credit for languages spoken at home were popular.

Families also had the opportunity to connect with LCPS staff and community partners, as well as explore additional support at the resource fair. More than 30 LCPS offices and community partners participated in the resource fair.

Food trucks, child care services, multilingual translation support and even raffles for fun prizes helped make the conference an inclusive occasion where everyone could learn and feel connected.

“At LCPS, we are committed to giving every student and family the resources and support they need to succeed in school and beyond. The Empowered English Learner Family Conference highlights the power of families, schools, and community working together,” said Sarah Ocampo, supervisor of the Division of English Learners, Family and Community Engagement office. “We sincerely thank the families who joined us and the staff and partners who helped bring this event to life.”

The Empowered Family Conference is just one of the many LCPS initiatives to support English Learners. Other outreach activities include:
