On Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) held events across the county to honor veterans in their community and shared with students the meaning of Veterans Day. The LCPS schools listed below commemorated Veterans Day 2025.
Please note: This list doesn't represent all LCPS schools that may have participated in Veteran’s Day activities and remembrance events, but includes those that submitted their plans at the time of publishing this article.
Elementary Schools:
Aldie Elementary
Aldie Elementary honored veterans at an assembly that included students singing, reading letters and reciting a poem. Veterans were honored on the school’s Wall of Heroes and through a slide presentation.
Algonkian Elementary
Algonkian Elementary held a special breakfast and assembly that included a slide show of family members, friends and those in the Algonkian Elementary community who served in the military.
Ashburn Elementary
Ashburn Elementary held an assembly featuring Ashburn family members and staff who are veterans. Prior to the assembly, veterans and their families were invited to a breakfast sponsored by the PTO. Veterans also received cards that students made in art class.
Ball’s Bluff Elementary
Ball’s Bluff Elementary honored veterans with a special assembly featuring a performance by the school’s third-grade students.
Rosa Lee Carter Elementary
Rosa Lee Carter Elementary held a school-wide assembly to celebrate and honor their community's veterans. It featured the National Anthem performed by the fourth and fifth-grade students, as well as a song performed by each grade level. Family members and staff were invited to attend a reception before the scheduled assembly. Each branch of the military was honored as its veterans were recognized during the assembly.
Catoctin Elementary
Catoctin Elementary held a Veterans Day breakfast. The school choir sang celebratory patriotic songs, and a special keynote speaker was featured.
Cedar Lane Elementary
Cedar Lane hosted an assembly and a breakfast honoring veterans and active service members. During the assembly the color guard and the chorus sang the armed forces medley.
Cool Spring Elementary
The Cool Spring Elementary held an assembly to honor veterans. The assembly included patriotic songs, fun facts about the different branches of the military and the historical background of some of America's most beloved patriotic songs. Students also recognized veterans with a special slide show.
Frederick Douglass Elementary
Frederick Douglass Elementary hosted an assembly honoring family members and staff who served in the armed forces. Following the assembly, veterans enjoyed a breakfast reception in their honor.
Evergreen Mill Elementary
Evergreen Mill Elementary held an assembly to honor its veterans. Each grade level prepared a special song to express thanks and appreciation, and shared thank-you cards with veterans in attendance.
Goshen Post Elementary featured a performance by their third-grade students and a slideshow tribute featuring photos of veterans connected to their families. The winner of the "A Veteran Who Inspires Me" essay contest read their winning piece. Following the program, veterans watched a parade held in the main hallway and concluded the event with a reception and light refreshments in the cafeteria.
Hamilton Elementary
Hamilton Elementary hosted a Veterans Day program to honor and recognize all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Students from every grade level participated, each contributing in a special way to express gratitude and appreciation for veterans. Through songs, readings and presentations, students celebrated the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country.
Hillside Elementary
Hillside Elementary honored veterans with a daytime and an evening concert. Students and families also submitted a photo with a brief caption of family members who have served or who are currently serving in the military to be featured on a “Hero” wall outside of the gym.
Horizon Elementary
Horizon Elementary held a school-wide assembly featuring musical selections tailored to each grade level. They also honored the veterans with handmade thank-you cards and light refreshments in the café. Additionally, a “wall of honor” displayed active, reserve and retired military connected to Horizon’s families and community.
Hovatter and Henrietta Lacks Elementary
Hovatter and Henrietta Lacks Elementary Schools hosted a joint Veterans Day event honoring staff and family members who served in the military. The celebration took place at Henrietta Lacks Elementary and featured:
A distinguished veteran speaker from the local community
Student-led flag ceremony and pledge, supported by Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts
Student presentations honoring veterans
A special slideshow recognizing veterans who could not attend in person
Following the assembly, veterans were honored with a celebratory procession across the campus, concluding with a reception sponsored by the PTA at Hovatter Elementary.
To ensure all students could participate, the event was live-streamed throughout both school buildings.
Hutchison Farm Elementary
Hutchison Farm Elementary School hosted its annual Veterans Day program to celebrate and thank the veterans of their staff and families with songs and letters of gratitude. They also collected “bricks” to share information about veterans for their Wall of Honor.
Legacy Elementary
Legacy Elementary held a Veterans Day celebration led by its fifth-grade students. At the end of the celebration, the school’s color guard led a parade of all veterans and their families throughout the school, cheering and celebrating.
Liberty Elementary
Liberty Elementary held an assembly featuring military-connected students and their families. Liberty students performed patriotic songs, including the Armed Forces Medley. Veterans in attendance received a small gift as a token of appreciation.
Lincoln Elementary
Lincoln Elementary hosted a Veterans Day program for all Lincoln veterans and friends of Lincoln. Students sang military songs and shared information about Veterans Day. The Lincoln veterans and their guests enjoyed a reception after the program, provided by the Lincoln PTO. A slideshow was shared with everyone to recognize each veteran.
Little River Elementary
Little River Elementary continued its tradition by creating authentic learning experiences for its students while celebrating its veterans. The day began with the veterans welcoming the students, followed by a celebration of the veterans (and their student/family) with breakfast and donuts. Following breakfast, every classroom had at least one veteran visit to share about their experiences and career connections with students. Students and staff had the opportunity to learn in real-time from true veterans.
Lovettsville Elementary
Lovettsville Elementary kicked off Veterans Day with a special breakfast, provided by the PTO, for all veterans and their family members. After breakfast, the school held a special ceremony featuring patriotic presentations and musical performances by students. Veterans walked the red carpet through the school hallways and passed by the "Wall of Heroes," celebrating Lovettsville veterans. In Lovettsville tradition, a veteran who has a student at the school served as the keynote speaker. All veterans received a special gift that day.
Richard and Mildred Loving Elementary
Richard and Mildred Loving Elementary held an assembly to honor and celebrate veterans for Veterans Day. The morning began with a reception to show gratitude and appreciation for those who have served. All veterans and their families were warmly invited to join in the special event.
Lowes Island Elementary
Lowes Island Elementary held an assembly for veterans in their community. Each grade level prepared a song to share. Following the assembly, veterans attended a reception to continue to celebrate.
Madison’s Trust Elementary
Madison’s Trust Elementary hosted its annual Veterans Day celebration to honor those who have served our country. Prior to the assembly, the school provided breakfast for approximately 80 veterans, offering a warm welcome and time to connect. The assembly featured patriotic songs and poetry performed by students, and a color guard presented the flags, creating a respectful and memorable experience. This tradition reflects the school’s commitment to gratitude and teaching students the importance of service and sacrifice.
Middleburg Community Charter School
Middleburg Community Charter School commenced its Veterans Day assembly with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Scouts and members of the school’s Fall Boot Camp. Following a welcoming speech by Principal Stephen Robinson, fourth and fifth-grade students recited patriotic poems. The choir performed patriotic songs prior to a special breakfast for service members, parents and community members.
Moorefield Station Elementary
Moorefield Station Elementary third-grade students performed a concert of patriotic songs to an audience of service members, third-grade parents, and all students and staff. Service members shared pictures for a video display. Additionally, second-grade students created decorations for this event.
Mountain View Elementary
Mountain View Elementary honored veterans with a special assembly that included a reception for veterans and their families. During the program, students sang songs, presented personalized cards to each veteran, read poetry and shared a slideshow to celebrate their service and sacrifice. Mountain View students and community members expressed gratitude and reflected on the importance of Veterans Day.
Newton-Lee Elementary
Newton-Lee Elementary hosted a special school-wide assembly for veterans, active duty military and their families. Students, staff and families viewed photos of the school community's veterans and active military, while grade levels took turns singing songs of thanks and songs about America to special guests.
Pinebrook Elementary
Pinebrook Elementary proudly celebrated the veterans in their community with a student-led Veterans Day ceremony. The event featured heartfelt tributes, student reflections and patriotic songs led by the school’s third-grade students. They honored and thanked those who served our country with courage and dedication.
Rolling Ridge Elementary
Rolling Ridge Elementary proudly hosted its annual Veterans Day assembly, inviting veterans in the Rolling Ridge Elementary community, whether family members or staff. Attendees wore red, white and blue to honor and celebrate those who have served our country. The assembly featured performances from each grade level, along with special presentations by the fourth and fifth-grade chorus.
Round Hill Elementary
Round Hill Elementary hosted a continental breakfast for veterans and those currently serving, accompanied by a Veterans Day assembly. Students also created cards to share with veterans.
Seldens Landing Elementary
Seldens Landing Elementary held an assembly featuring family members and staff who are veterans. Following the assembly, veterans enjoyed food and beverages, as well as a special statement of thanks from the students.
Sugarland Elementary
Sugarland Elementary School held an assembly featuring the fourth-grade students in a song and spoken word performance. They also honor staff and community members with a slide show.
Sycolin Creek Elementary
Sycolin Creek Elementary hosted a reception for its veterans. They also hosted a Veterans Day program, during which students honored veterans and sang songs.
Elaine E. Thompson Elementary
Elaine E. Thompson Elementary second-grade students presented musical performance. Afterwards, veterans and their students participated in a celebratory walk through the hallways, which were decorated with artwork created by students in art classes. Veterans and their families enjoyed light refreshments while viewing a special slide show.
John W. Tolbert Elementary
Tolbert Elementary held a musical tribute to veterans. Family members and staff were invited to attend. Fourth-grade classes led the assembly, followed by a small reception for veteran attendees.
Waxpool Elementary
Waxpool Elementary held a hallway parade to honor its veterans. The fifth-graders led each military branch down the hallway, while the rest of the students clapped and cheered in the hallways. This parade concluded with a reception and gifts for veterans.
Middle Schools:
Belmont Ridge Middle
Belmont Ridge Middle honored veterans with a breakfast. Each grade level had a Veterans Day assembly which included music, a slideshow of veteran photos and a guest speaker. They also had an advisory lesson on the history of Veterans Day, and each student had the opportunity to write a thank-you note to a veteran.
Brambleton Middle
Brambleton Middle hosted a Veterans Day breakfast on Friday, November 7. Students wrote letters of appreciation to celebrate and honor Mr. Jerry Rich, a 101-year-old World War II veteran, during his Honor Flight through DC and visit to the monuments.
Farmwell Station Middle
Farmwell Station Middle created a wall of photos and information about all the service members related to students and staff.
Harmony Middle
Harmony Middle held a breakfast for veterans and family members, followed by a student in-class video featuring facts about Veterans Day, family photos of veterans, a performance of the Armed Forces Medley by the school band and the National Anthem by the chorus. At 11:11 a.m., they observed a Moment of Silence to commemorate the signing of the armistice.
River Bend Middle
For Veterans Day, River Bend’s PTA sponsored a special donut event for families. While the event wasn’t limited to veterans, it’s part of the school’s ongoing effort to strengthen family engagement. Several teachers planned classroom activities to commemorate the day. As a Purple Star school, River Bend is committed to supporting military-connected students and their families through various initiatives.
Seneca Ridge Middle
Seneca Ridge observed a moment of silence at 2:11 p.m. Students and staff wore red, white and blue. Staff created an advisory lesson and an opportunity for their social studies classes to discuss and reflect on the importance of the day. Lastly, families, students and staff shared pictures of those who served.
J. Lupton Simpson Middle
J. Lupton Simpson Middle held an assembly featuring family members and staff who are veterans. Starting with Reveille and ending with Taps, the assembly was student-centered and featured the eighth-grade band playing the National Anthem, the eighth-grade choir singing the Armed Forces Medley, the seventh-grade students interviewing veterans and a sixth-grade student reciting the poem “Veterans Day” by Cheryl Dyson. The tribute was attended by the eighth-grade class in the auditorium and live-streamed for the rest of the school to view in their classrooms. Following the assembly, veterans were presented with a gift and a special statement of thanks from the Mustang community.
Smart's Mill Middle
Smart's Mill continued its tradition of hosting a Veterans Day brunch for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Students joined in to eat with a family member who has served in the military. Staff were also invited to share in the experience. During the event, there were:
opportunities for members to mingle with one another,
a special thank you from the students of Smart's Mill, both video and written,
photo stop for families to make a memory and honor their loved one's service,
a slideshow of pictures of family members from when they were on active duty and those who were unable to attend in person, and
a parade of heroes around the building, where students applaud each veteran to thank them for their service.
Stone Hill Middle
Stone Hill Middle held an event in which veteran guest speakers, who are either parents of students or staff members, spoke to students in groups of about 30-45 about their military experiences, how they joined the military and answered any questions. Following the 35-minute session, veterans and students had breakfast.
Trailside Middle
The PTSA and school jointly hosted the fifth annual Veterans Day dinner and Ceremony, followed by a concert performance by the eighth-grade orchestra featuring songs of honor and patriotism.
Willard Middle
Willard hosted its second annual Veterans Day assembly featuring community members who have served and are currently serving. Veterans attended a breakfast, received Willard spirit items, as well as handwritten notes and cards by students. Veterans spoke to all three grade levels in a panel style session moderated by Willard staff.
High Schools:
Tuscarora High School
Tuscarora High School hosted a special advisory lesson to honor the veterans who serve as educators in the building. A slide presentation highlighted each veteran’s name, military branch, rank and role during their service in the U.S. Armed Forces. Veteran staff members were invited to a luncheon as a gesture of appreciation for their service and dedication.
Virtual Distance Elementary (VDE) and Virtual Distance Learning (VDL)
To celebrate Veterans Day, the VDE and VDL staff read passages, newsletters and stories to commemorate the day, as well as shared video snippets relevant to celebrating veterans. Teachers invited discussion at the conclusion of each activity.
