On September 11, 2025, schools across Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) came together to honor and remember the victims, first responders and heroes of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Through a series of ceremonies, educational programs and moments of silence, students and staff reflected on the significance of the day and paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
From elementary schools to high schools, LCPS campuses held age-appropriate events to educate students about the historical impact of 9/11 and to celebrate the resilience and unity shown by Americans in the face of tragedy. Many schools hosted guest speakers, including local veterans and first responders, to share personal stories and emphasize the importance of service, courage and compassion.
"September 11 is a solemn reminder of the strength of our community and the values that define us as a nation," said John Cornely, Principal of Round Hill Elementary School. "It is vital that we continue to educate our students about this day—not only to remember the lives lost, but to honor the bravery of those who risked everything to help others."
Events included flag-raising ceremonies, student messages of appreciation and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in unison. At several schools, students created memorial art projects and participated in service activities to give back to the community in honor of the lives lost.
LCPS remains committed to fostering a sense of civic responsibility and remembrance in its students, ensuring that the legacy of September 11 lives on through education and reflection.
