LCPS Update Graphic

Loudoun County’s 100 public schools and programs will begin classes on Thursday, August 21, welcoming approximately 82,000 students for the 2025-26 school year. The last day of school will be Monday, June 15, 2026. Calendars for the 2025-56 school year are available on the LCPS website.

PERSONNEL

As of August 6, 2025, LCPS had hired 626 new licensed personnel for the 2025-26 school year, of which 59.7 percent hold master’s degrees and 2.1 percent hold doctoral degrees. Also, of those 626, 237 are brand new teachers to the profession.

As of August 13, 2025, LCPS had a fill rate very close to 99% of all School-Based Licensed positions. This is a slightly higher fill rate at this time than during previous years.

LCPS has maintained a focus on increasing the pool of exceptional talent with recruiting efforts, including the creation of a new partnership with US Teach to welcome international teachers to LCPS in hard-to-fill Special Education roles.  Additionally, LCPS is continuing to fund multiple alternate pathways to licensure for current and new LCPS employees to transition to a teacher role, including those moving from an Associate to a Bachelor's degree and career switchers.  Further, we are returning more former LCPS students who participated in the Teacher Cadet program to LCPS classrooms after college as part of the “Grow Our Own” initiative.

LCPS sustained signing bonuses for its new teachers with extra incentives for teachers in Special Education and Title I settings, while adding an additional incentive for student teachers and interns to choose LCPS as their employer. For veteran teachers newly joining the division, LCPS removed the step placement cap to commensurate with verified eligible years of experience.  Finally, LCPS created a more efficient process to fill in-demand roles with contracted staffing agency employees through a newly implemented vendor management system.

PROGRAMS

Loudoun Recovery Academy (opening 25/26)
The Recovery Academy is designed for students who are in early recovery from substance-use disorders. Recovery Academy students will work toward their high school diploma while receiving additional layers of support in their recovery journey. They receive the academic, emotional, and social support necessary to complete high school and have the flexibility to participate in internships, work, or fulfill other commitments. The structured programs available at the Recovery School have been created in accordance with the LCPS academic and student well-being goals as well as in partnership with Loudoun County health agencies, local and state government programs, and legal agencies.

Access Academy (opening 25/26)
The Accelerated College and Employability Skills program, or Access Academy, is a collaborative program with Loudoun County Public Schools, George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. Access Academy supports students in developing hands-on experience and industry-aligned skills in information technology (IT), earning college credit and gaining career experience while still in high school. Program locations include Potomac Falls High School (Grades 9 and 10) and the FUSE Center at Mason Square (Grades 11 and 12).
