On June 24, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) joined with the Loudoun First Responders Foundation, the Loudoun Education Foundation, Flags of Valor and the School-Business Partnership Executive Council to host the annual First Responders Appreciation Cookout—a heartfelt tribute to the brave folks who protect and serve our community every day.

Held at J.L. Simpson Middle School, the event brought together first responders from across Loudoun County, including representatives from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and their canines, the Leesburg, Middleburg and Purcellville Police Departments, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. This year’s celebration welcomed hundreds of officers, firefighters, EMTs and support personnel for an afternoon of gratitude, camaraderie and connection.

LCPS staff and community volunteers, including Apple Federal Credit Union, served more than 600 hot dogs and hamburgers, fueled by a generous spirit and sizzling temperatures. Monk’s Barbeque, Larks Catering and Wegman’s generously donated delicious meal sides and desserts. A special shout-out goes to the Heritage High School administrative team, who braved the heat to keep the grill going strong throughout the day.

More than just a meal, the cookout served as a powerful reminder of the impact first responders make in the lives of our students, families and neighbors. It’s a celebration rooted in respect—one that highlights the strength of the partnerships that help keep our schools and communities safe. LCPS is proud to honor those who answer the call with courage and compassion. Their unwavering dedication is a source of inspiration for all of us—and a reminder that service, when paired with community, makes a lasting difference.
