Stone Bridge High School’s library program has been named the 2025 School Library Program of the Year Award winner by the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL)—a recognition that celebrates excellence in school library programs across the Commonwealth.
The award reflects the outstanding efforts of the Stone Bridge library team in delivering an innovative student-centered program that promotes literacy, collaboration and lifelong learning.
School libraries play a vital role in supporting student success by fostering critical thinking, encouraging reading and research skills and contributing to a positive and inclusive school experience. Research consistently shows that strong library programs positively impact academic achievement and student engagement (Library Research Service).
The award recognizes programs that integrate the school library’s mission into the broader goals of the school, implement national library standards and build strong connections with students, staff and the larger community. Applications are evaluated based on four key components: a mission statement, evidence of implementation of national school library standards, ongoing outreach and letters of recommendation.
The Stone Bridge application highlighted a strong commitment to instructional collaboration, innovative programming and equitable access to resources. The program was also praised for its ongoing outreach and student engagement efforts.
Congratulations to the entire Stone Bridge High School library team on this well-earned recognition!
