Two Loudoun County Public Schools high schoolers earned national Silver Medals in the prestigious 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a program that recognizes outstanding creative work by teens across the country.
Ruby Edwards of Loudoun Valley High School and Rebecca Lee of Lightridge High School were each awarded Silver Medals at the national level for their exceptional visual artwork. Their winning pieces are featured in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards national gallery, which showcases the creativity, skill and voice of young artists and writers from across the United States.
Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Each year, students in grades 7–12 submit works in categories ranging from painting and photography to poetry and journalism. Submissions are first judged regionally, with top works advancing to the national level.
Ruby’s winning piece, A Moment of Silence, and Rebecca’s Reality of the Mind each stood out among more than 300,000 entries nationwide. Their work now joins a legacy of awardees that includes artists and authors such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath and Amanda Gorman.
