Meggie Meidlinger, a 2006 graduate of Dominion High School, earned USA Baseball’s Sportswoman of the Year honors on May 12 during a ceremony at Dominion High School. Meggie was selected for the honor after a strong showing during the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals last August, helping the United States secure a silver medal. She made three appearances in relief for the U.S. and was Team USA's go-to arm in the bullpen as she compiled a spotless 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record.

When asked about her time at LCPS, Meggie said, “All the teachers and all the coaches were incredible and facilitated great environments as a school for camaraderie, and just building together what is Dominion. I’m extremely honored to get to be here at Dominion to receive this award, because if I was not given the opportunities that Dominion gave me to be a part of this baseball team and part of this community, it would not have led me to my career with USA Baseball.”

Meggie, who is an eight-time national team alum and 2006 World Cup gold medalist, returned to Dominion High School to receive her award, where she was the first female to earn a win and pitch a perfect game in a men's varsity baseball game in the state of Virginia. Outside of work and competition, she is passionate about growing the participation of women in baseball and coaches various Major League Baseball (MLB) development events throughout the calendar year. She also makes annual trips to Uganda as a part of Baseball at Heart and teaches girls the fundamentals of the game.
