Winter break is a wonderful time to slow down, recharge and make memories with family and friends. This season offers a natural pause to reflect on the unique gifts you bring to the world, and how sharing them creates warmth and light for yourself and others.

Check out the LCPS Family SEL page (https://lcps.pub/4pJeDYc) for connection activities, videos and resources for all ages! Winter 2025 activity pages are available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi and Vietnamese, along with a menu of fun options, including the engaging “Snow Globe of Positivity” activity to enjoy with family or friends.

Shared activities can strengthen family bonds, improve communication and foster positive relationships across generations. These moments also create supportive opportunities to practice empathy, teamwork and problem-solving while having fun together.

We are also celebrating Luisa Donahue who was named Staff Member of the Month for November. Luisa goes above and beyond to make every student feel capable and confident. While they support many classes, it was noted specifically in the cosmetology classroom that they help adapt lessons, provide one-on-one support, and actively engage with the curriculum to ensure inclusion and success. Their patience, professionalism, and positivity create an empowering environment where students thrive. Congratulations to Luisa Donahue, our Staff of the Month!

Congratulations RoboLoco

Congratulations to Jeremy Staples who was also named Teacher of the Month for November. Mr. Staples champions student success through exceptional opportunities. His MATA pathway offers dual enrollment, allowing students to earn 15 college credits across five NVCC courses—a testament to his advocacy and support. He has helped coordinate our school’s participation in the CyberPatriot competition since 2018 and, using his connections to industry partners, recently secured a total program sponsorship donation of $6,500 from Ocean Solutions LLC. His dedication makes a lasting impact on our school community. Congratulations to Jeremy Staples, our Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations to Haley Gargan for being named the November Teacher of the Month! Haley inspires and motivates her students in AOS Integrated Science, AOS Sophomore Research and AP Environmental Science. She regularly shares happenings in her classes with parents. A colleague will be out for an extended time and this teacher is supporting those classes to make sure that students continue to have engaged learning experiences. She and Lori Stone worked tirelessly for the AP Env Sci Field trip that was unfortunately cancelled. They turned the disappointment into an amazing in-school lab where this teacher’s entire classroom was decorated like a graveyard for Halloween... Her students LOVED it! Congratulations to Haley Gargan, our Teacher of the Month!

🌲 Envirothon Training Day! 💧
Huge shoutout to the 12 awesome @AcademiesofLoudoun students (from AOS, AET, and MATA) who attended the VA Envirothon Training at Graves Mountain Lodge on Saturday, November 22! What an incredible day of learning and getting hands-on with environmental science. Our students joined 30 teams and nearly 300 participants to dive into the 2025 curriculum.
Highlights from the Training:
Nonpoint Source Pollution: We tackled the special topic, "Nonpoint Source Pollution: It Begins at Home," getting prepped for the Oral Presentation scenario.
New Tools & Tracks: Students explored a brand-new soil pit and practiced with forestry tools.
Outdoor Learning: It was a great day being outdoors, fueled by Graves' famous all-you-can-eat buffet!
Special thanks to @LoudounSoilandWaterConservationDistrict for sponsoring us and covering our registration fees and lunch! Remember to keep studying those resources so we can represent at the Local and Area Competitions! #GreenEarthClub #LCPSGreenTeam #AOS #AET #MATA #EnvironmentalEducation #LSWCD

Schools are more than classrooms. They’re communities where every student should feel like they belong. LCPS celebrates the families, educators and community partners who help make that sense of belonging possible.

Family Connection Tip: Ask your student what helps them feel most welcome at school, then share their answers with their teacher or principal. When we listen to and elevate student perspectives, we strengthen communities of belonging together.
