Dear Parents,
We are so excited to meet the newest class of fifth graders! Fifth grade is such an exciting time, filled with milestones, special events, and leadership opportunities. We will make so many fun memories together!
Fifth grade is a time to develop independence, increase responsibility, and strengthen our reflection abilities. We will read books & texts on a variety of topics and show our learning in all different cool ways. We will grow as mathematicians and deepen our problem-solving skills. We will investigate physical and Earth science topics and explore the U.S. regions. We’ll continue to increase our expertise in all subject areas through deeper learning experiences. Students will have lots of opportunities to write, to speak, and to share. We will work in collaborative groups, create amazing projects, and most importantly, build meaningful relationships. Life skills are a huge component of our classrooms!
Reading-and finishing-lots of books over the summer is the greatest way to keep progressing as a reader. It also gives us lots of topics for conversation!
To have a solid understanding of fifth grade math concepts (whole numbers, fractions and decimals), please make sure your child is fluent in multiplication and division facts. This will be a major focus in our first month together, so getting an early start on facts is a great way to come in prepared!
We can’t wait to meet you all! Get ready for the best year of elementary school.
Truly,
The Fifth Grade Team
