Derek Racino,  Principal

Dear Mountain View Families,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I begin my first year as principal of Mountain View Elementary School. After serving as principal of Sycolin Creek Elementary School for 13 years, I am honored to now join the Mountain View community and partner with you in continuing the tradition of excellence that makes our school so special.

Prior to my time at Sycolin Creek, I served as the assistant principal at Sterling Elementary School, taught second and third grades at Ball’s Bluff Elementary, and began my career in education teaching special education in Rome, New York. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cortland and my master’s degree in School Administration from Shenandoah University. My wife, Eryne, is a middle school counselor, and we live in Purcellville with our two wonderful daughters, Madison and Emily.

As we begin the 2025–2026 school year together, my commitment is to ensure that every child at Mountain View is challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and inspired to discover their passions. We will work to help our students develop the intellectual capacity, skills, and character they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Beyond academic excellence, we strive to instill pride, respect, and responsibility so our students grow into caring, contributing members of society.

High expectations and a safe, nurturing environment will remain at the heart of all we do. Our talented staff is dedicated to making learning engaging, meaningful, and rewarding for every student. I am equally excited about working alongside our incredibly active and supportive parents and guardians. Your involvement—whether through the PTA, volunteering, or participating in school events—makes an immeasurable difference in the lives of our students.

Please know that my door is always open. I welcome your questions, ideas, and feedback as we build strong partnerships in support of our children. I encourage you to stay connected by visiting our school website regularly for the latest news and updates.

Together, we will make this a productive, rewarding, and memorable school year for all of our Mountain View students.

With Mountain View Pride,
Derek Racino

Brad Toohill, Assistant Principal

Hi there, I'm Brad Toohill, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be the Assistant Principal here at Mountain View! My journey in education began way back at Ohio University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, and then I continued my learning at Georgian Court University for my Master's in Administration and Educational Leadership.

This year marks my 25th year as an educator in LCPS, and it's been an incredible ride! After spending two years as Assistant Principal at Seldens Landing Elementary, I had the amazing opportunity to help open Mountain View in 2003, and I've been a proud Moose ever since! Before moving to Virginia, I also gained valuable experience in New Jersey as a Special Education Teacher and an Assistant Principal.

Throughout my career, my biggest passion has always been student success—not just academically, but emotionally too. I truly believe that every student should feel loved and supported when they walk through our doors, ready to learn new things. I'm dedicated to fostering a positive school environment where all students are engaged and excited to learn.

I'm really looking forward to this school year and working together to continue Mountain View's success! Go Moose!
