IB Logo & Important Course Planning Reminders for Students Interested in the IB Diploma in blue with a blue wave like border across the bottom

Dear Loudoun Valley Families,

As we continue planning for next school year, I want to share some important reminders for students in 8th, 9th, and 10th grade who are interested in pursuing — or keeping open the option of pursuing — the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at Loudoun Valley High School.

For Current 8th Grade Students

If your student is interested in the IB Diploma, or would simply like to keep the pathway open, please ensure that they enroll in the next level of French, German, or Spanish for 9th grade.

Additionally, we recommend that IB‑interested students take Honors and advanced coursework whenever appropriate to help prepare for the rigor of the program.

For Current 9th Grade Students

Students in 9th grade who are considering the IB Diploma should:

  • Continue progressing in their world language (French, German, or Spanish).

  • Be enrolled in AP Government for 10th grade, as it aligns well with the IB Diploma course sequence.

  • Work with their school counselor to make a plan for completing the Economics and Personal Finance requirement.

For Current 10th Grade Students

Students who are interested in pursuing the full IB Diploma should have already met with me to review course selections and ensure their schedules align with Diploma Programme requirements.

If a student is interested in the IB Diploma but has not yet met with me, please have them reach out as soon as possible so we can schedule a time to discuss their course plan and answer any questions.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the program or course planning. I look forward to supporting your student’s academic journey.

Warm regards,

Michael Skvarch
