Second Grade

Hi Lowes Island Students and Families. My name is Mrs. Michelle Chong. I’m excited to be teaching at Lowes Island Elementary! My teaching experience includes over 25 years worth in a spectrum of positions. As a high school and college student, I taught elementary students in an enrichment program in Hawaii. After graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree, I taught in more states and after my first Master’s Degree I taught in Virginia as both a special education teaching assistant and a classroom teacher. I finished my second Master’s Degree and this is my third year returning to Lowes.
My family and I moved to Virginia after my husband finished his military service, and we’ve enjoyed every one of the 14 years we’ve spent here in Loudoun County. In our free time, you can catch us canoeing at Algonkian Regional Park, running the adjacent trails, music venues, or at any of the wrestling mats or football fields in the area with our sons. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year. Let’s get started!

My name is Kayla McGoran and I am a 2nd grade teacher at Lowes Island. This will be my third year teaching at Lowes Island and my 9th year teaching. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and earned my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education from Duquesne University. I have taught in both Pittsburgh and Virginia, as well as in Prague! I strive to cultivate a student-centered classroom that has meaningful learning experiences and of course, some fun!
In my free time I love to read, cook and travel. You can always catch me planning my next trip! I am so excited for this school year!
