Fifth Grade

Hello, my name is Laura Crosnicker; formerly known as Ms. Whelpley. After graduating from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin with a bachelor’s in education and a minor in literacy, I decided to move to Arizona. However, I’m still a Packer fan!

Arizona is where I spent the first decade of my career teaching second, third and fourth grades. During my fifth year of teaching, I received my master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University.  Moving to Virginia allowed me to be closer to family and now we all live in the same time zone! I met my husband here and we got married in October 2020 during the pandemic. Last year, we had our rainbow baby, Katelyn. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and traveling.

This year I will be teaching fifth grade again and look forward to my 19th year of teaching and being a part of the Lowes Island Elementary School community.

Libby Fiume

Welcome! I’m so excited to be teaching 5th grade this year at Lowes Island Elementary. This will be my fourth year teaching, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a supportive and fun school community here at LIES.

A little about me - I earned my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! I live in Leesburg with my husband, Matt, and our dog, Scout. I just got married last year, so you might recognize me as Miss Griffis—but I now go by Mrs. Fiume (like perfume 😊).

There’s so much to look forward to this year, and I can’t wait to see your student grow. I’ll keep you in the loop through Class Dojo, so be sure to check those regularly for updates, reminders, and classroom happenings.

If you ever have questions or need to reach me, don’t hesitate to reach out:
