This is my 11th year at Lowes Island and my 19th year in education. My experience is varied and includes teaching English in Japan, substitute teaching, working as a special education teacher assistant, and teaching kids with special needs. Prior to my time in education, I worked as a Human Resources Manager, which I believe gives me a unique view on preparing students for independence (our ultimate goal). My philosophy revolves around building strong relationships with my students so that they trust me and are willing to risk engaging in higher level thinking.
I live in the Potomac Falls area with my husband and two cats (Mango & Kiwi) and have two grown sons. My outside interests include reading, watching movies & Broadway shows, traveling, and practicing my Japanese on the Duolingo app. I look forward to an engaging year with our Lowes Island family!

My name is Jennifer Lawrence and this is my 17th year as a special education teacher. This is my eighth year at Lowes Island Elementary and I truly believe it is a wonderful place for students (and teachers) to learn and grow. When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my husband and two kids.
I received both my undergraduate and master’s degree from George Mason University. Becoming a teacher was natural…there are five other special education teachers in my family! I am looking forward to getting to know each of my students and their families.

Hello Lowes Island families! Starting my first year as a Resource Teacher is an exciting opportunity to inspire and learn alongside such a talented group of students. My journey into teaching began when I guided my own child through remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, an experience that shaped how I see education and strengthened my passion for creating classrooms where every student feels valued, supported, and capable. I have a strong belief in creating a sense of belonging for all students and am committed to building strong partnerships with families to help every child shine. Beyond teaching, my favorite ways to recharge include reading, exploring nature, traveling, and spending time with my family. I can’t wait to share this new journey with all of you and make lasting memories at Lowes Island.

I’m thrilled to be back on the Island for the 2025–2026 school year! This will be my fifth year at Lowes Island Elementary as a special education teacher, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Before joining the team at Lowes Island, I worked at Madison’s Trust Elementary as a cross-categorical special education teacher. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington in 2016, and in May 2019, I completed my master’s degree in Special Education from Shenandoah University. I added an endorsement in the Adapted Curriculum in 2021, and this past summer, I completed a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. Most recently, I began working toward a certificate in Educational Administration through Shenandoah University.
Outside of school, I love visiting local farmers’ markets, reading, and spending time outdoors—especially at the beach!
I’m looking forward to another fantastic year of growth, learning, and fun!
