Reporting Absences, Tardies, and Early Dismissals

Overview

Our goal at Woodgrove High School is to support student engagement. In order to support that engagement, consistent student attendance is critical. We fully understand that life happens and there are many factors that can interfere with consistent student attendance. Many of these absences or tardies can be excused with appropriate notification. Without documentation, they will count as unexcused and may result in disciplinary action. Excessive tardies will be referred to administration.

It is very helpful for parents to be communicative and proactive about absences, early dismissals, and other student needs.  It is also very important that you have a ParentVUE account. ParentVUE is the only way to communicate student attendance changes. Please view the link below for details about how to activate a ParentVUE account and submit attendance chances.

Reporting Absences and Tardies

Submit your student’s attendance changes only through ParentVUE. You can access the Report Attendance option in the mobile app and the web version.

This function only reports the absence, tardy, or early dismissal to our attendance secretary, not to teachers. Best practice suggests that parents/guardians and students email the teachers as well.

Reporting Early Dismissals

Please submit all early dismissal requests through ParentVUE by 9:30 AM. In order to process early dismissals in a timely manner and to ensure validity for student safety, requests made after 9:30 AM must give one hour of notice to school staff and be submitted prior to 12:00 PM. Students will be dismissed from class using Pass.

Any last-minute early dismissal requests must be made before 4:00 PM and will require that you come to the main office and present a photo ID.

Students are notified of their early dismissal through Pass. Students should then communicate with their teacher that they have an early dismissal. Students will not be permitted to leave without showing their Pass to their teacher.

Planned Absences

Please let us know about planned absences. These can include personal illness, a death in the family, medical or dental appointments, court appearances, religious holidays, etc. These absences may be excused with proper notification. Please email Dr. Shipp, your student’s counselor, and your student’s assistant principal.
