Leesburg Elementary fifth-grade teachers Steve Martin, Karen Kent, Stephanie Dymond, and Lindsay Mantz, along with resource teacher Rhonda Parvin and former Leesburg math teacher Jonathan Thompson, recently led a scientific investigation at Leesburg Elementary School.

The students explored the relationship between the amount of water in a bottle rocket and the height of its flight. The project provided a cross-curricular connection among writing, math, and science. Students practiced essential math skills by measuring, timing, and rounding numbers to the nearest hundredths of a second while collecting data. They then used writing skills to reflect upon their initial hypotheses and document their scientific process.
