English and Reading

Mr. Christian is in his third year of teaching. He is what we call a “career switcher.” Prior to joining the Robey faculty, Mr. Christian was an independent filmmaker who worked as a scriptwriter and producer for forty years. Most of his documentary films were made for large corporations and educational institutions with some feature work for sports and broadcast networks.

His desire to become an English teacher grew out of personal motivations to support our community and a desire to pass on knowledge of writing and producing films so that young people could continue the traditions he learned in film school. He recently received a masters in education from George Mason University.

As a teacher, Mr. Christian believes he can learn as much from his students about life and community as they will learn from him during their time together reading and writing.

This is my 34th year as a educator. I have taught in middle schools, high schools, correctional facilities, and alternative programs.  I received a bachelor's degree in secondary English education from Shepherd College in 1990 and a master's degree in special education from James Madison University in 1996.  I am certified in English, special education, and ESL.  The best thing about teaching at Robey is the small class sizes.  I am able to give students lots of individualized instruction and feedback to improve their reading and writing skills.

Mrs. Tonya Williams, English Teacher

Mrs. Williams is excited to be at Robey High School as part of the English Department. She has worked at LCPS schools since 2019. Before changing careers, Mrs. Williams worked as an attorney, a business owner, and for the Girl Scouts of the Nation's Capital. She has a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Florida Atlantic University.

Mrs. Williams endeavors to share her love of learning with the students at Robey High School. However, her favorite thing about being at Robey is that her students teach her just as much as she teaches them.

When she's not at school, Mrs. Williams volunteers with Girl Scouts; reads lots of books; and spends time with her husband, adult children, and dogs.
