Greetings! My name is Dr. Gregory Mihalik and I am the Principal at Sugarland Elementary. It is a privilege to work with our outstanding staff and partner with the community for the success of all students. I have worked as an educator in LCPS for 18 years. Prior to this position, I had the pleasure of teaching for 11 years at the elementary level at Discovery ES and Newton-Lee ES. I then worked as a Division Instructional Facilitator supporting multiple schools with educational initiatives. After serving as Sugarland’s Assistant Principal, it is an honor to return as Principal to help students make meaningful contributions to the world.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Penn State University in Elementary Education and then continued my graduate work in Reading Education (M.Ed.) and School Leadership (Ed.S.) through the University of Virginia. After becoming a National Board Certified Teacher, I then completed my doctorate through Liberty University in Curriculum and Instruction.

I live in Ashburn with my wife Lauren and three children; Melanie, Sienna, and Easton. My wife also works for Loudoun, serving as a Reading Specialist at Ashburn Elementary. In my free time, I enjoy distance running, attending concerts, and traveling with my family. I would like to personally welcome you to Sugarland as we make a difference... one student at a time!

Mrs. Alysa Ruminski, Assistant Principal

Hello Sugarland Community,

I’m honored to join the Sugarland team as your new Assistant Principal! I began my career in Fairfax County and have since served as a 5th grade teacher, Gifted Resource Teacher, and most recently, Dean at Cedar Lane Elementary. I hold a degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from George Mason University. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about fostering inclusive environments where all students feel supported and empowered to succeed.

I live in Leesburg with my husband, our two sons, and our energetic dog. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and making memories with family and friends.

I’m truly looking forward to connecting with our amazing students, staff, and families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—I value our partnership and am excited for the journey ahead!

Warmly,

Alysa Ruminski
