Our 2025 Category Sponsors are:
The LCPS Regional Science and Engineering Fair (RSEF) is intended to:
to stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM),
to encourage students to engage in research in STEM fields,
to provide students opportunities to present research to STEM professionals and the community, and
to give public recognition to students for their work.
If you are a student interested in participating in the RSEF this year, please visit the Information for Students link above. If you are a community member interested in serving as a judge and/or sponsoring an award, please visit the Judge and Award Sponsor Information link above.
Our students enter their research and engineering projects in one of the 22 RSEF categories (based on the International Science & Engineering Fair Categories and Subcategories):
Animal Sciences | Earth & Environmental Sciences | Physics & Astronomy |
Behavioral & Social Sciences | Embedded Systems | Plant Sciences |
Biochemistry | Energy: Sustainable Materials & Design | Robotics & Intelligent Machines |
Biomedical & Health Sciences | Engineering Technology: Statics & Dynamics | Systems Software |
Biomedical Engineering | Environmental Engineering | Technology Enhances the Arts |
Cellular & Molecular Biology | Materials Science | Translational Medical Science |
Chemistry | Mathematics | |
Computational Biology & Bioinformatics | Microbiology |
There are First, Second, and Third places awarded in every category. One or two Honorable Mention Awards may also be given. All students compete on an equal basis within each category. ISEF Finalists are chosen from the 1st place category winners.
The ISEF Finalists participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This annual event takes place in May with participants from more than 400 affiliated fairs from 40 nations.
Special Awards
Special Awards are given by individuals, and local, state, and national organizations. The Special Award donors establish the criteria for their awards and often provide their own judges. Awards might include monetary gifts, treasury bonds, gift certificates, plaques, trophies, journal subscriptions, scientific equipment, tours of facilities, and special opportunities for students.
