Waxpool Elementary is a school in which students come first.  We envision our school to be the focal point for our students, their families, and the community.  Our school will be caring, warm, safe, and orderly, all of which help to foster a learning environment that is conducive to success.  Waxpool will focus on learning and recognize diversity and the growth and development of each individual.

Our students will be actively involved and given opportunities to choose enriching activities that focus on the strengths of each child.  Students will use a variety of resources and technology to enhance their ability to learn.  Effective, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable teachers will maximize learning time by facilitating the instructional process in order to guide each student to success.  Using a variety of methods and instructional strategies, teachers will instill a contagious love of learning so children are eager to learn.

The Loudoun County Public School curriculum provides students with powerful learning opportunities designed to support standards and benchmarks to achieve the skills necessary to become positive and productive citizens.  The curriculum is exciting and integrated, allowing for flexible progress, and contains experiences that make real-life connections.

We believe that parents are an important part of the learning process.  Parents, teachers, and administration must partner together to help the students achieve the high academic and behavior expectations.  By working with each other, we can help every child realize their greatest potential.  It is our hope to see that all families are active members of the PTA, an organized body of individuals who have an interest or purpose in common...our children!

The Waxpool staff and I look forward to a wonderful school year and the opportunity to work with you and your family.

With Waxpool Warmth,
Michael Pellegrino,
Principal

I am honored to join the Waxpool Elementary Admin Team as your new Dean of Special Education. With 16 years of experience in Loudoun County Public Schools, I have taught 3rd and 4th-grade general education for a number of years, served as an inclusion co-teacher and team lead, and been involved in special education as a teacher in cross-categorical and self-contained settings for students with emotional disabilities. For four years, I also served as a district-level support for the Office of Special Education. In my role as Dean of Special Education, I will ensure that procedures and practices at Waxpool align with our special education regulations as I lead our SPED department. More importantly, I am passionate about ensuring every student feels loved and cared for, as I believe a strong foundation of rapport is essential for effective teaching. I firmly believe that success looks different for everyone, and it is my mission to ensure students of all abilities have the opportunity to thrive.

My educational journey began at St. Bonaventure University, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education. I then received my master's degree in Educational Psychology and am currently pursuing my second master's in Educational Leadership from George Mason University, with the goal of one day serving as an assistant principal or principal within LCPS. I have a passion for leadership and am looking forward to building the capacity of our special education teachers so that they can effectively and efficiently make an impact on the students they serve.

As an LCPS parent myself, with my daughter Rosie attending Lowes Island Elementary, I am deeply committed to our community. I also enjoy spending time with my family, which includes the best Frenchie pup. I am excited to collaborate with our students, families, and staff and look forward to being a part of this wonderful community!
