LCPS offers a comprehensive music program in grades K-12. Music is required of all students in grades K-6. Music is required in grade 6 and the offerings include band, chorus, strings, and general music. Band, chorus, guitar, and strings in grades 7 and 8 are electives. In grades 9-12, a full program of electives is offered including multiple levels of band, chorus, guitar, and orchestra. LCPS Music Awards: Blue Ribbon Schools 2026

12 LCPS schools are recognized as VMEA (Virginia Music Educators Association) Blue Ribbon Schools!  In order to receive this honor, three performing ensembles (band, chorus, and orchestra) must receive a superior rating in all three ensembles.  Congratulations to these qualifying schools:
