Computer Science Integration

K–8 Computer Science

Our Computer Science program is designed to ensure every student has meaningful opportunities to engage with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) 2024 Computer Science Standards of Learning (SOLs).

At the K–8 level, four Computer Science Content Specialists collaborate with core subject teams to weave computer science into daily instruction and curriculum documents. This work results in CS Integrated Lessons that bring computational thinking, problem-solving, and creativity into classrooms across the division. These lessons are available in our CS Lesson Plan Repository and embedded directly into subject area curriculum documents for easy access and use.

To support teachers in implementation, our Instructional Technology Facilitators provide Tier 1 support at the school level, ensuring teachers have guidance and resources when introducing computer science concepts. In addition, our Librarians partner with teachers to manage and distribute the CS Accessories Model, making sure the hands-on tools needed for exploration and innovation are available in every elementary and middle school.

Together, these efforts create a strong, sustainable pathway for computer science learning, preparing students with the skills they need for the future.
