This fall, we are excited to welcome almost 1,700 scholars to Willard Middle School. Lockers are an exciting part of middle school, and we want to accommodate as many scholars as possible. This year, we expect an increased use of lockers as a result of the LCPS Student Personal Device Use policy which states:
Middle school students must keep their devices silent and not visible, stored in their locker* during the school day. Personal devices may be used before or after the school day.
How will Willard assign lockers?
Due to a limited number of available lockers, we will assign them in the following manner:
Grade 6 - A locker will be automatically assigned to all sixth grade students. If your child will be in sixth grade this year, there is no additional action required on your part.
Grade 7 - We have 350 lockers available on a first come, first served basis. If your child will be in Grade 7 this coming year, you may opt in to a locker by completing this form by August 13.
Grade 8 - We have 350 lockers available on a first come, first served basis. If your child will be in Grade 8 this coming year, you may opt in to a locker by completing this form by August 13.
How many forms should I submit if I have more than one scholar at Willard?
You will need to submit a separate form for each seventh or eighth grade child in your family who is requesting a locker.
What options do Grade 7 and 8 scholars have if they do not receive a locker?
Most years, very few scholars opt to use their lockers. Scholars are permitted to carry their backpacks through the hallways, alleviating the need to visit their lockers during the day. In addition, most classes will require students to bring their Chromebooks, rather than heavy textbooks or other materials. Moreover, students will have a dedicated space in their gym locker rooms for their gym clothes (if needed) and space in the music area to store their music instruments each day.
*Scholars who do not receive lockers must keep their cell phones off and away in their backpack for the entire school day.
Thank you in advance by submitting this form by Wednesday, August 13 to enable us to assign lockers before school starts. If you have any questions, please email Assistant Principal Bill Peterson at William.Peterson@lcps.org.
More information on lockers, plus all of the upcoming excitement for the upcoming school year, will be available in our first Wildcat Chat of the school year, coming on Friday, August 8.
