Teacher, Principal, and New Teacher of the Year Awards

Teacher, Principal, and New Teacher of the Year

The nomination window for the 2025-2026 school year will open in the winter of 2025. Nominations can be submitted by staff, parents, students and/or community members for an outstanding employee based on their exemplary performance.  It is highly recommended that parents contact the school principal or assistant principal if they desire to submit a nomination for a teacher, as the admin team will be able to help coordinate a solid nomination packet. Self-nominations, or submissions from an employee's relative, will not be accepted. Award winners from the 2024-2025 school year are not eligible. A selection committee composed of current LCPS staff and community members will review nomination materials and use a standardized rubric to determine winners.  Performance and past evaluations will be considered.

Note: The nomination form is a Google form. To assist nominators in developing well rounded submissions, we are providing the criteria and guiding questions in written form so nominators can work on the answers independently, then cut/paste final responses into the Google form. Please see Criteria/Guiding Questions for each category.

Please reach out to Carrie.Simms@lcps.org with any questions regarding our awards programs.

The Principal of the Year Award is based upon the criteria of leadership excellence, collaboration, listening, lifelong learning, and creating an environment in which students and staff can flourish and grow.

The Teacher of the Year Award is based upon the criteria of instilling in students a desire to achieve, fostering strong relationships with students and the community, demonstrating outstanding leadership, and contributing to the highest standards of education.

The New Teacher of the Year award is given to a teacher within their first three years of the profession. Criteria is based on their superior instructional skills, understanding the differing needs of students, collaboration, and immersing themselves into, and contributing to, the culture of the school.
