Welcome to 5th Grade!
We’re so excited to welcome you and your child to an amazing year in 5th grade! This year will be filled with exciting opportunities, and memorable experiences that will help our students grow both academically and socially. As a 5th grader, your child will work with three content specific teachers on a block schedule that will prepare them for middle school.
Your child will focus on math fact fluency and a variety of unit topics that support math course choices at the middle school level, U.S. Regions in social studies, core science vocabulary to support their learning throughout the year, and exploring new genres and a love for daily reading. Students will also work on a variety of purposes using multi-paragraph essays. They will also participate in Genius Hour projects that allow them free choice to explore topics within their own interests.
Our 5th graders will have the chance to participate in a variety of special activities, including:
News Show – sharing important school updates and practicing communication skills.
Safety Patrol – assisting students getting to and from school safely.
D.A.R.E. Program – learning about making safe and responsible choices.
Tech Ambassadors – exploring leadership and technology skills while helping our school community.
5th Grade Musical – shining on stage and working together to put on a fantastic performance.
Team-Building Activities – building friendships, problem-solving, and working collaboratively throughout the year.
Camp High Roads Field Trip – a day of outdoor adventure, teamwork, and personal growth.
End-of-Year 5th Grade Field Trip – celebrating our accomplishments together before moving on to middle school.
