10/11 - Monroe Partners with INOVA for Blood Drive

Monroe Technology Center in cooperation with Inova Blood Donor Services held Monroe’s first blood drive of the school year on October 11-12, 2011. Fifty donors were registered on Tuesday and Inova collected 35 units of whole blood. On Wednesday, despite the county-wide PSAT testing, there were 44 donors and 38 units of blood were collected. Inova was pleased with the turnout and said that they were “eternally grateful for the 73 units of blood and the over 200 patients who will receive these life-saving products”.

To be eligible to donate blood the donor needs to be 16 years old (with signed persmission form from the collection organization), in general good health, feeling good on donation day, and have a valid photo ID. Whole blood donors are eligible to donate every 56 days. Platelet donors must wait 14 days between platelet donations, while double red donations may occur 112 days apart. Monroe will partner with the American Red Cross for their second blood drive scheduled for February 22-23, 2012.
