RECOGNITIONS
Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Jeffrey Platenberg introduced energy education specialists John Lord and Michael Barancewicz, who presented the School Board with the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Partner of the Year Award. Middle School Supervisor Barbara Nichols introduced Dominion High School Principal Dr. W. John Brewer as the recipient of The 2010 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leader Award for Loudoun County. This award also honors the LCPS Principal of the Year. Elementary Supervisor Dr. Mike Martin introduced Rhonda Alley as the recipient of the 2010 Washington Post Agnes Meyer Award for Loudoun County. This award also honors the Loudoun County Teacher of the Year.
ACTION
The School Board Approved:
Minutes; School Board Policy Revisions – §7-11, Certifications and Criminal History Record Request and Child Abuse Record Request and §7-12, Appointment, Assignment and Transfer; Student Expulsion; Easement and Right-of-Way Agreement Between the Loudoun County School Board and Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) –J. Michael Lunsford Middle School Property; IFB #224 PE Uniforms, Renewal; IFB #0709, Communications Equipment Renewal; and Licensed and Classified Personnel Actions, including the following administrative appointments and retirements:
Douglas A. Anderson as principal of Broad Run High School, effective July 1, 2010. Mr. Anderson holds a bachelor's degree in history and social studies and a master's degree in education from Radford University and has done additional coursework in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech. He has served as a social science teacher at Fairfax High School, James Madison High School and as history and social science department chair at Westfield High School; and as assistant principal at Broad Run.
Irene M. Ellis will retire as principal of Hutchison Farm Elementary, effective June 30, 2010. Mrs. Ellis holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Old Dominion University and a master's degree in reading and elementary principal endorsement from George Mason University. She has served as a second grade teacher at Sinclaire and Barron elementary schools in Hampton City Schools; as a fifth grade teacher at Aldie Elementary; a third grade teacher at Meadowland Elementary; a reading resource coordinator at Guilford, Waterford and Lincoln elementary schools; a fifth grade teacher at Sully Elementary; a reading resource coordinator at Algonkian and Meadowland elementary schools; as assistant principal at Meadowland Elementary; and as principal at Lucketts and Hutchison Farm elementary schools.
Albert S. Johnson will retire as principal of Lincoln Elementary, effective June 30, 2010. Mr. Johnson has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Clinch Valley College, a master's degree in education from Union College and completed coursework in administration/supervision from the University of Virginia. He has served as a sixth and seventh grade teacher, and administrative assistant to the superintendent for Norton City Schools; as assistant principal and principal of Norton Elementary; as assistant principal of Meadowland Elementary; and as principal of Lincoln Elementary.

Eileen Murdock spoke about the need for the School Board and public to work more closely together. Janet Southward and Sandy Sullivan spoke about the School Board's FY 2011 Budget.
