PUBLIC HEARING
No members of the public spoke during a hearing regarding the condemnation of the Jafari Rose Garden LLC Property in Leesburg. The School Board also seeks to acquire all of the right, Title and interest of the Condominium Unit Owners Association and owners of the following listed units have in that certain Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions affecting the aforesaid Jafari Property, dated January 3, 2003, recorded as Instrument No. 20030424-0046900.

RECOGNITIONS
Athletic Supervisor Les Cummings introduced Briar Woods High School Athletic Director Jerry Carter as the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA) Group AA Athletic Director of the Year. Supervisor of Student Health Services Cathy Sturgeon introduced a proclamation declaring May 12, 2010, School Nurse and Health Clinic Assistant Appreciation Day.

ACTION
The School Board Approved:
Minutes; RFP #09A, Primary Vendor for Library Media Services Renewal; RFP #10-O, Employee Assistance Program; IFB #259, Percussion and Keyboards for New Schools and Ongoing Needs; IFB #260, Elementary Music, Furniture and Strings for New Schools and Ongoing Needs; Student Expulsion; and Licensed and Classified Personnel Actions, including the following administrative appointment:

Heidi E. Latham as principal of Hutchison Farm Elementary, effective July 1, 2010. Ms. Latham holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in early childhood education from George Mason University and a master's degree in administration in education from Shenandoah University. She has served as a third grade teacher at Ashburn and Lowes Island elementary schools and as assistant principal and principal at Algonkian Elementary.

INFORMATION
School Board: The School Board discussed continued participation with the Joint School Board/Board of Supervisors Committee.
Planning and Legislative Services: Dr. Sam Adamo, the executive director of the LCPS Planning and Legislative Services Department, presented the Ashburn Area Schools, Site Assessment Study.
Business and Financial Services: Assistant Superintendent for Business and Financial Services E. Leigh Burden gave a Fiscal Year 2010 Financial Review as of March 31, 2010. The School Board also discussed changes to School Board policy §4-6, Insurance Management.
Deputy Superintendent: Deputy Superintendent Ned D. Waterhouse and School Board member Tom Marshall (Leesburg District) presented revisions to School Board policies §2-5, Election, Term of Office and Vacancy in Office; §2-21, Annual, Regular and Special Meetings; §2-22, Meeting Procedures; §8-28, Disciplinary Action by the Division Superintendent; §8-32, Weapons; §7-13, Tuberculosis Test; §7-14, Physical Examination and DMV Records Required of Bus Drivers; and §7-15, Drug and Alcohol Testing for Employees Required to Hold a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
 
DELEGATIONS
Rebecca Simmons and Rich Hayden spoke about potential boundaries for HS-7. Dave Donald and Linda Kokal spoke about inequities in grade weighting between LCPS high schools and the Loudoun Academy of Science.
