School Board Summary March 12, 2024


The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Work Session

The School Board received an update from the Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee (MSAAC).

The School Board received an update from the Department of Student Services on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Recess Meeting

Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Future Health Professionals Club from Farmwell Station Middle School. The National Anthem was performed by Alexis, a student from Harmony Middle School.

Student and Staff Recognition

The School Board recognized the One LCPS Spotlight: Expanding the Computer Science Pipeline from Rock Ridge High School.

Superintendent’s Report

Highlights of the report included:

  • An update on the Restroom Privacy and Safety Pilot Program.

  • LCPS Staff, Students and Families Make Your Voice Heard Annual Survey is available.

  • Amy Goodyear was named the Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom 2024 Teacher of the Year.

  • Belmont Ridge Middle School’s Spectrum Program won the 2024 WUSA9 Eco Challenge.

Public Comment

Community members participated in person and virtually to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics.

Action Items

The Board addressed two action items:

  1. The Board approved the exception requests received for certain current grade three and grade four students to remain at their 2023-2024 zoned school for their remaining years of elementary school.

  2. The Board approved showing the LCPS logo that states “Public Comment in Progress” during public comment.

Information Items

The Board discussed two information items:

  1. An update from the Department of Student Services on Student Mental Health Services.

  2. Student and Staff school calendars for SY2024-2025 and SY2025-2026.

The Board then held a Closed Session
