School Board Summary May 9, 2023


The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Board Member Attendance

School Board Work Session

Dr. Asia Jones, Department of Student Services, and the team from Student Services presented on the LCPS response to increase awareness about illicit Fentanyl which is driving the increase in U.S. drug overdose deaths.

 

Dr. Michelle Luttrell, Principal, Loudoun County High School; Lisa Boland, Chief Human Resources Officer, and the team for Goal 2 of the One LCPS | 2027 Strategic Plan for Excellence presented an update on Goal 2, Exemplary Staff.

 

Dr. Asia Jones, Department of Student Services, and Chief Financial Officer, Sharon Willoughby, and other representatives presented an update on the FY24 special education staffing standard allocation and assignment of positions.

 

Dr. Ashley Ellis, Deputy Superintendent and Scott Meisenzahl, School Improvement Supervisor, provided the School Board with information on the identification of 2023-2024 Title I served schools.

 

The School Board then went into a closed session.

 

Recessed Meeting

 

Pledge Leaders and National Anthem

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sarah Proper from River Bend Middle School. The National Anthem was performed by the Dominion High School Choir.

 

Student and Staff Recognition

Representatives from Human Resources and Talent Development presented the 2023 HRTD Staff Recognitions.

 

Dr. Smith, Acting Superintendent, recognized the Independence High School Golf team; Lightridge High School Scholastic Bowl; Rock Ridge High School Theatre Festival; and, Dominion High School Debate team for capturing the VHSL state championship for their sport or activity.

For the May One LCPS spotlight staff and students from Riverside High School highlighted their efforts in mental health support and structure in their school. This work supports aligned action related to Goal 1.3 of the One LCPS: 2027 Strategic Plan for Excellence.

  • LCPS partnership with SchooLinks for college and career readiness
