Message from the LCPS Interim Superintendent
Dear LCPS Families,
Tonight at a meeting of the Loudoun County School Board, I was appointed as the interim superintendent for Loudoun County Public Schools, replacing Dr. Scott Ziegler. During this time of transition, be assured that I am committed to supporting LCPS students, staff and the broader LCPS community.
When I arrived at LCPS this past April, I never imagined such an opportunity to serve the students and this community as your interim superintendent. Though I have not been here long, I value the division’s commitment to helping students achieve their dreams, developing exemplary staff, and improving community engagement. I pledge to be open to listening to ideas for improvement and creating an even safer and welcoming environment for each and every learner.
As we approach the new year, the School Board will navigate next steps in its superintendent search, with the anticipation of having a new superintendent in place around July 1, 2023 in time for the 2023-24 school year.
Moving forward, we will work to find solutions to support our students and community members, earn their confidence and expand opportunities for all students to learn and reach their full potential. Together, we will stay true to our One LCPS vision.
Thank you for your support as we work hard to rebuild, refocus and do our very best for our children.
In service of students, staff and the community,
Daniel Smith, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent, Loudoun County Public Schools
