Rock Ridge High School Theatre Becomes Regional Champions

For the first time in Rock Ridge High School history, the school’s Theatre Department won the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region 4C Competition.

This competition took place on November 19 at Millbrook High School near Winchester.

The Phoenix’s production of “The Trench” by Oliver Lansley received superior ratings and was awarded first place. AJ Ruhnke received the Best Actor award and Olivia McMahon placed third in this category.

Rock Ridge is now headed to the VHSL Class 4 State Theatre Championship on December 3 at Monticello High School.

“The Trench” is a new play inspired by the true story of a miner who became entombed in a tunnel during World War I. As the horror threatens to engulf him, he discovers another world beneath the mud and death. This sets off on an epic journey of salvation. The boundaries between reality and fantasy blur as he questions what’s real, what’s not and whether it even matters?

Rock Ridge staged the countywide debut of “The Trench” on October 25.
