School Board Summary November 15, 2022
The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Chair Jeff Morse (Dulles District), Vice Chair Ian Serotkin (Blue Ridge District), Atoosa Reaser (Algonkian District), Harris Mahedavi (Ashburn District), Tiffany Polifko (Broad Run District), John Beatty (Catoctin District), Erika Ogedegbe (Leesburg District) and Brenda Sheridan (Sterling District) attended the meeting at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn. Denise Corbo (At-Large) attended remotely.
NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS
Tiffany Polifko (Broad Run District) and Erika Ogedegbe (Leesburg District) joined the School Board as the result of the November 8 election.
Chair Morse spoke about School Board Operations as it relates to board committees. Superintendent Dr. Scott Ziegler, Chief Financial Officer Sharon Willoughby and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ashley Ellis presented the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Update and School Board Prioritization. Assistant Superintendent, Department of Student Services Dr. Asia Jones, Executive Director, Teaching and Learning Neil Slevin and J. Lupton Simpson Middle School Principal Lenny Compton presented the One LCPS | 2027 Strategic Plan for Excellence: Goal 1 Update.
A Color Guard from the Loudoun County High School JROTC presented the colors. Color guard members included Grace McGuirk, Dean Stillings, Elle Shin and Emerson Webb. Their instructor is Naval Science Instructor Dennis M. Gaitens, GySgt USMC (Ret.).
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by three LCPS teachers who joined the school division this year. These teachers are all military veterans. They are being honored as part of LCPS’ Veterans Day recognitions. The teachers are Michael Girdy, a music teacher at Belmont Station Elementary School; Alicia Schofield, a fifth-grade math & language arts teacher at Cool Spring Elementary; and Kevin Wetmore, a Social Science & Global Studies Teacher at Seneca Ridge Middle School.
The Tolbert Elementary School Chorus, under the direction of Jennifer Canales, performed the National Anthem.
Willard Middle School Principal Jeff Rounsley, Student Equity Ambassador Gabrielle Doffoh, Instructional Facilitator for Technology Adam Howells, Social Studies Teacher Leisha Lucent, School Counselor & Equity Lead Jazlynn Moody, Assistant Principal Steven Pickering, Assistant Principal Gela Russell, and Student Equity Ambassador Sid Yenireddy presented a program on School Student Voice.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE UPDATE
Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee (CTEAC) Chair Brandon Ferris and Supervisor of Career and Technical Education Dr. Lhe Smith presented the Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee Quarterly Update.
Capital Budgets: Chief Operations Officer Kevin Lewis presented the Superintendent’s Fiscal Year 2024-Fiscal Year 2029 Capital Budgets.
Curriculum and Instruction Committee: Mr. Serotkin, Dr. Ellis and Mr. Slevin detailed New Policy 5055, Parental Notice of Sexually Explicit Content.
Department of Business and Financial Services: Mrs. Willoughby outlined the Revenue Sharing Agreement Draft MOU with Loudoun County.
Human Resources and Talent Development: Chief Human Resources Officer Lisa Boland presented two additional options for the 2023-2024 Student School Calendar.
Department of Instruction: Dr. Ellis, Mr. Slevin and Supervisor - Early Literacy, Elementary Reading & Writing Kathryn Neal presented Access to Literacy for All and English Language Arts Textbook/Resource Adoption Recommendations.
Superintendent's Office: Dr. Ziegler provided the Superintendent's Operational Update.
