5 LCPS Students Among Final Group of National Merit Scholars

Five Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) students are among the final group of National Merit Scholar designees. 

This final group of winners brings the number of 2022 National Merit Scholars to more than 7,200. These distinguished high school graduates will receive scholarships for undergraduate study worth a total of nearly $28 million. In addition to college-sponsored awards, two other types of National Merit Scholarships were offered: 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, for which all Finalists competed, and about 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who met criteria specified by their grantor organizations.

Independence High School

Probable career field: Medicine

National Merit University of Cincinnati Scholarship

The University of Cincinnati consists of over 10 undergraduate colleges and divisions, plus the Colleges of Law and Medicine and the Division of Graduate Studies. The student body represents all 50 of the United States and more than 60 foreign countries.

Briar Woods High School

Probable career field: Medicine

National Merit Virginia Commonwealth University Scholarship

VCU is a major, urban, public research university with national and international rankings in sponsored research. VCU enrolls more than 31,000 students in 225 degree and certificate programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. Seventy-nine degree programs are unique in Virginia.

Stone Bridge High School

Probable career field: Music

VCU features an Honors College that offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, and all VCU students have opportunities to take part in undergraduate research, service learning, and study abroad.
