J.L. Simpson Hosts STEAM Day

Simpson Middle School held its third annual STEAM Day on Wednesday, June 8.

The schoolwide event featured 21 concurrent stations operating 40-minute activities covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Activities included:

  • Guest speakers on meteorology and lasers
  • Making ice cream
  • Dissecting owl pellets
  • Physics olympics
  • Making lava lamps
  • Elephant toothpaste explosions
  • Paper roller coasters
  • Building bird feeders
  • Designing suncatchers
  • Repurposing trash into art exhibits
  • Making electricity work.

The school partnered with Amazon Web Services to bring 20 volunteers to campus to assist with various hands-on stations. Instructional Facilitators of Computer Science supported the coding and drone stations.
