Owens Named VAME Teacher of Year


The Virginia Association of Marketing Educators (VAME) has named Dominion High School marketing teacher Briana Owens the 2021 VAME Teacher of the Year.

VAME’s Teacher of the Year Award honors an outstanding marketing teacher in Virginia who exemplifies excellence in teaching. The award was presented at the annual VAME summer conference on July 29, 2021. This award is sponsored by Johnson & Wales University.

Owens has been a marketing teacher and DECA advisor for nine years. (DECA is an association of marketing students.) She is VAME’s board secretary and a Virginia DECA Foundation board member.

A 2008 graduate of Heritage High School, Owens holds a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University. (She was born and raised in Loudoun County.)

Owens has worked on state Curriculum Development for Introduction to Marketing, Marketing and Advanced Marketing courses. Through DECA, she has advised students on such projects as Suit Up for SUDEP, Pink Out and Hoops for Rehan. She also prepares DECA students to compete in local, state and international competitions.
